Woman gets 10 months’ imprisonment for drug abuse

KUCHING: A 30-year-old woman was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (March 30) for self-administering dangerous drugs.

Nor Atiesya Mohamad Effindy was handed the sentence by Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan after she pleaded guilty, with the jail term set to commence from March 30.

The court also ordered her to undergo police supervision for a period of two years upon completion of the sentence.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering amphetamine and methamphetamine.

According to the facts of the case, the offence was committed on Nov 14, 2025 at about 3.15pm at the Kuching District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department Office.

She was instructed by police personnel to undergo a urine screening test, which returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine. She was subsequently arrested.

A police report was lodged following the incident and the urine samples were later sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital for further analysis.

Laboratory results confirmed the presence of both substances, which are listed under the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Fauzultfi Suriani prosecuted the case.
