KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local woman to 14 months in prison for possessing 4.65g of methamphetamine drugs in a hotel room in Muara Tebas last January.
Kenanga Udin, 29, from Kampung Tabuan Hilir, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
The charge carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years imprisonment or both.
Based on the facts of the case, a team from Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) conducted a raid at the hotel room around 7pm on January 27.
Upon inspection, the team found a sling bag containing a plastic packet with crystalline substance believed to be syabu on a table.
Results of the chemical report found that the item was methamphetamine drug weighing 4.65 grams.
Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
