SIBU: A quiet farmhouse near Rumah Birai, Jalan Salim Belalang here turned into a scene of heartbreak last night (May 7) when the bodies of a 46-year-old woman and her two-month-old grandson were found lifeless.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, said police were alerted to the discovery by a member of the public at about 8:56 pm.

“Preliminary investigations led officers to the woman’s body, found by a gravel path roughly 50 metres from the house. The baby was later found in a cradle inside the house,” he said in a statement today.

The case is currently being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR), pending further findings to determine the exact cause of death.

Zulkipli urged members of the public not to speculate on the case, adding that premature assumptions may hinder the ongoing investigation.

“Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to come forward and contact Investigating Officer Insp Ahmad Hakimi bin Abd Azid at 011-31873715,” he said.
