PAKAN: A woman was injured after being splashed with a liquid believed to be acid by a man at a food premises here earlier today.

Julau District Police Chief, DSP Alif Haiqal Ramesh Abdullah, said the 36-year-old victim, who works as a drink preparer at the premises, was attacked when the suspect suddenly entered the shop and poured the liquid on her.

The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the Pakan Health Clinic for further treatment.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect was also injured during the incident and has been sent to Sarikei Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement today.

Alif Haiqal said early findings indicated that the incident was believed to have been triggered by the suspect’s dissatisfaction after his wife refused to return to live with him.

Police were also informed that several disputes between the suspect and his wife had previously taken place at the same premises.

According to initial medical information, the suspect is believed to have used a corrosive liquid that was splashed onto the victim’s face and body, although the exact substance has yet to be identified.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using a dangerous substance.

The suspect has not yet been arrested as he is still receiving medical treatment, but police said he will be detained once his condition stabilises.
