KUCHING: A woman was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Feb 19) for using amphetamine and methamphetamine four years ago.
Chang Siew Jun, 34, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
In addition to the jail term, she was ordered to undergo drug rehabilitation at the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) here after completing her prison sentence.
She was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234), which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, and the offender shall also be placed under supervision for up to three years under Section 38B of the same Act.
Chang committed the offence on Nov 10, 2022, at 8.35 pm, when she was found to have administered amphetamine and methamphetamine into her body.
According to the facts of the case, officers from the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) arrested the woman.
While being detained at the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD), she was subjected to a drug test and the initial urine screening test returned positive for drugs.
The urine sample was subsequently sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and the report confirmed that she tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Fauzulufti Suriani, while Chang was unrepresented.
