KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local woman was killed while another was severely injured in a three-vehicle accident at KM10, Jalan Kota Samarahan–Tabuan Jaya this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nur Aisyah Abdullah, 40, from Kampung Kuhom Mawang in Serian.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the accident, which occurred at around 9.30 am, involved a KTM RC200 motorcycle, a Proton Saga and a Nissan lorry.
“Investigations found that the crash happened when the motorcycle ridden by a 32-year-old man and the victim, rammed into the back of the Saga, which was waiting at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) traffic light junction.
“The impact caused the pillion rider, Nur Aisyah, to be thrown off onto the adjacent lane, where she was run over by a lorry driven by a 51-year-old man.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene and her remains were taken to Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,” he said.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for immediate treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Both the Saga and lorry drivers, aged 55 and 51, escaped unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
It was reported that the motorcycle burst into flames following the accident, and the flames were extinguished by members of the public.
