Woman killed in fourth-floor room fire

SARIKEI: A local woman was killed after a fire ripped through a rented room in a shophouse behind RHB Bank, Jalan Repok here yesterday (Jan 18).

The victim, identified as 31-year-old Priscilla Ida Francis, was found unconscious in the bathroom on the fourth floor of the building.

She was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics, and her remains were handed over to the police for further action.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were alerted to the blaze at 4.51 pm, and dispatched firefighters from Sarikei station to the scene.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that the fire had caused 60 per cent damage to the rented room measuring about 20 by 15 feet.

Extinguishing works were conducted and overhaul works followed suit to ensure there were no remaining hotspots or smoke hazards.

The operation ended at 7.55 pm. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
