BAU: A 23-year-old woman lost RM1,110 after she fell victim to a non-existent online loan scam advertised on Facebook.

Bau Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said the victim came across the loan advertisement on Facebook while at her home in Kampung Bogag on June 30 before clicking on the link provided.

“She was later contacted via WhatsApp by two individuals using the phone numbers 011-67666893 and 011-68125178.

“The victim agreed to apply for a RM6,000 loan with a repayment of RM19 per month over three years before being instructed to make several payments to process the application,” he said.

Haide said the victim subsequently made three online transfers totalling RM1,110 to the account provided by the suspects.

He said the payments were purportedly for a loan application form and MYSST charges.

“The suspects later demanded an additional RM1,380 to increase the victim’s loan account score. The victim refused to make the payment after becoming suspicious that she had been scammed,” he said.

The victim lodged a police report at 4:20 pm yesterday (Thursday, July 2).

Police are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
