SERIAN: Police arrested a local woman for allegedly conducting online gambling activities at a premises here yesterday (Feb 25).

Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspect was arrested at about 11am during an inspection by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division.

He said she was detained and several items were seized to facilitate further investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction,” he said.

Freddy added that police would continue to intensify enforcement against illegal gambling in the district.
