PADAWAN: A woman who thought she was just giving her boyfriend a ride to reclaim his seized luxury car ended up ‘surrendering’ her own, after officers found her Toyota Land Cruiser had no valid road tax or insurance.
The incident happened at the Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) Complex yesterday (Aug 20) when the woman arrived to send her boyfriend, who was there to collect his Toyota Vellfire that had been seized earlier under ‘Ops Kenderaan Mewah’.
Rather than leaving with two cars, the woman ended up without her Land Cruiser as officers promptly confiscated the vehicle on the spot for failing to comply with road laws.
The scene, which played out in front of enforcement officers, was described as an ironic twist — almost as if the woman had voluntarily surrendered her vehicle.
The Sarawak RTD said such operation will continue to be carried out consistently to ensure that luxury vehicle owners fully comply with road regulations.
“Road users are reminded to always ensure their road tax and insurance are valid before driving.
“Negligence in this matter not only invites legal action but also endangers their own safety and that of others,” the department said.
