SIMUNJAN: Women remain a driving force in community development, contributing to local economic growth and the strengthening of family institutions.

Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, said the Sarawak Women’s Organisation Federation (PPWS) serves as an effective platform to unite women from diverse backgrounds while empowering them to become independent and competitive contributors to society.

“I see PPWS as a strong platform to produce capable women who can make meaningful contributions to community development,” she said when officiating the PPWS Simunjan District Family Day Programme 2026 at the PPWS Simunjan District Building here yesterday (Dec 28).

Rodiyah encouraged all 27 PPWS branches in Simunjan to develop specialised products under the “One PPWS, One Product” initiative as a sustainable income-generating effort.

She also commended the PPWS Simunjan Bakery as an example of how proper planning can produce positive results.

Members were urged to explore local product potential, leverage digital platforms and social media for marketing, and take advantage of available support such as the RM5,000 Women Empowerment Capital Grant from the Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS) and TEKUN business financing.

She emphasised the importance of financial discipline and well-prepared proposals to ensure that any assistance benefits the community in the long term.

Also present were Simunjan District Officer’s representative Malisa Basmawi, PPWS Simunjan District chairperson Mazian Khalik, Deputy Head of PBB Simunjan Branch Bojeng Ali, Penghulu Ahmad Dol Simpol, and Penghulu Abang Madihie Abang Junaidi.
