KUCHING: From Bhutan to Rwanda, women cricketers from around the world are uniting in Kuching this week for the 3rd Malaysia Women’s Cricket Super Series 2025, competing while building bonds beyond the pitch.

The tournament, held from Sept 24 to 30 at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Petra Jaya, features five combined teams drawn from nine countries, namely Nepal, Bhutan, Singapore, Rwanda, Kuwait, Oman, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia as the host. A total of 75 players are participating in this year’s edition.

Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) president Mahinda Valipuram described the event as a key platform for cultural exchange, women’s empowerment, and the continued growth of the sport.

“This is a great opportunity for players to develop their talents while sharing experiences and cultures with one another.

“It builds unity, and I believe this tournament has grown into a unique platform to empower women in cricket,” he said.

The five combined teams competing are the Western Queens, Southern Jaguars, Northern Queens, Eastern Lioness, and Central Super Girls.

Commenting on the choice of venue, Mahinda said the Borneo Cricket Ground is among the best locations to host the sport.

At the same time, he expressed hope that cricket could be further developed in schools across Sarawak so the sport gains more recognition statewide.

He added that Sarawak remains one of the positive growth areas for cricket, noting the achievements recorded by local teams in recent years.
