LAWAS: The Sarawak government remains committed to empowering women through policies, support and opportunities, enabling them to contribute to the economy and lead in their communities.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said  Sarawakian women must continue to be equipped with not only traditional skills but also knowledge in technology, digital entrepreneurship and innovation to remain competitive in today’s challenging economic landscape.

“In line with the Sarawak government’s efforts to strengthen the state economy, the active participation of women in the economic sector is crucial to ensure that the benefits of development are enjoyed by all.

“At the same time, an inclusive development approach must remain a priority. We want to see more women emerge as successful entrepreneurs, community leaders and key contributors across various sectors, including the creative industry, services and the green economy,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the Pre-Celebration Ceremony of the 64th Sarawak Women’s Associations Federation (PPWS) Anniversary and Aidilfitri Get-Together for Lawas District at Lawas Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Awang Tengah said the PPWS plays an important role in ensuring women are not left behind in this wave of change.

“Efforts to empower women through platforms such as PPWS must continue to be supported and strengthened.

“Hence, this event is not only a platform for us to celebrate Aidilfitri in a warm and friendly atmosphere, but also a recognition of the significant role and contributions of the PPWS, which has long been a pillar in the development of women’s communities in this state,” he said.

He also called on the organisation to continue strengthening programmes that have a direct impact on society, particularly in improving family wellbeing, expanding educational opportunities and building community resilience.

“With the introduction of seven core programme areas, including entrepreneurship, digital literacy and leadership, PPWS has successfully positioned Sarawak women as key players in the state’s socio-economic development.

“This is in line with the Sarawak government’s aspirations under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” he said

He added that PPWS continue to expand its strategic collaborations with various stakeholders, including government agencies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations, further strengthening its role as a bridge between the community and development institutions.
