SIBU: Two wooden bridges near the Sang Ik Methodist Church along Jalan Tanjung Kunyit have been upgraded to concrete bridges, providing safer and more comfortable access for local residents.

According to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the project cost approximately RM200,000 and was funded through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“The project included upgrading the road section that connects the two bridges. In addition, the old culverts beneath the bridges were replaced with larger ones to improve rainwater drainage,” he said in a statement today.

He added that with the completion of the two upgraded bridges, a third wooden bridge in the area would soon be upgraded, with work expected to begin next week.

Lau said the Bawang Assan SUPP team would continue to monitor the project until it is fully completed.

“I would like to thank all officials, community leaders, and team members for their strong cooperation in building a better Bawang Assan,” he added.
