MIRI: A five-door wooden workers’ quarters in an oil palm estate in Suai, Niah near here was destroyed in a fire on Saturday night, leaving five people homeless. In the 9.30pm fire, the quarters were empty as the occupants had returned to their villages for a holiday.

Miri Fire and Rescue Services Department chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong said eight firemen in a fire engine from Lopeng Fire Station were dispatched to the location about 84kms from Miri city following a distress call received. The actual cause of the fire is being determined and investigation is underway.
