BETONG: A four-door plantation workers’ quarters was destroyed in a fire at WTK Oil Palm Estate, Jalan Tanjung Asam this morning.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the 8.55 am incident. The exact number of workers affected by the blaze were unknown.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call at 8.58 am.

Upon arrival, they found the 14-by-28-square-foot structure beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby palm oil drainage system.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation and returned to their station.

The cause of the fire and the losses incurred is still under investigation.
