KUCHING: SJK(C) Chung Hua No. 5 empowers young digital leaders through its MicroSpark@CH5 programme held to strengthen digital literacy and foster future-ready student competencies.
SJK(C) Chung Hua No. 5 Kuching successfully organised the MicroSpark@CH5 Buddy Digital Workshop, an initiative aimed at nurturing digital skills and inspiring young technology leaders among primary school students here.
Held on November 15 at the school premises, the programme brought together 80 students from Primary Three to Primary Five, alongside peers from Chung Hua Schools No. 1 to No. 6.
“A total of 105 enthusiastic participants joined the full-day workshop, designed to groom digital junior mentors known as “Buddy Support Microsoft,” who will later guide classmates and promote collaborative peer-to-peer learning,” according to SJK Chung Hua No.5 in a press release on Wednesday.
“Throughout the sessions, students experienced hands-on learning involving Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Copilot, gaining practical digital competencies relevant to academic work, daily tasks and creative digital exploration.
“The workshop emphasised empowering students with essential technological understanding, ensuring they develop confidence, creativity and adaptability as they prepare to navigate a rapidly evolving digital landscape with increasing global competitiveness,” it said.
In conjunction with the programme, the school proudly announced its achievement as a Microsoft Showcase School for 2025, highlighting its excellence in digital transformation, technology integration and future-focused learning innovation.
“This international recognition positions SJK(C) Chung Hua No. 5 Kuching as a community model for digital education, encouraging other institutions to adopt progressive technology-driven teaching and learning practices,” it said.
As a Showcase School, CH5 is committed to advancing three missions, beginning with promoting digital learning that demonstrates how technology enriches classroom engagement and enhances academic outcomes for students across varied learning levels.
The second mission focuses on empowering teachers, acknowledging their crucial role as digital transformation leaders who continuously upskill, innovate and adopt modern pedagogical strategies supported by advanced tools and Microsoft technologies.
“This achievement includes celebrating eleven educators who successfully earned Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert certification for 2025–2026, demonstrating outstanding leadership in AI application, blended classrooms, digital pedagogy and professional community sharing,” it said.
The third mission emphasises preparing students for future-ready capabilities, including information organisation, creative digital communication, data literacy, AI awareness, collaborative teamwork and responsible, safe technology usage essential for modern learning environments.
