KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) organised a five-day workshop in collaboration with the State Attorney-General’s Chambers (SAGC) to finalise key legislative instruments related to wildlife management and protected areas in Sarawak.
The workshop, held at St Giles Boulevard Hotel from Dec 17 to 21, focused on finalising the Crocodile Rules as well as revisions to the National Parks and Nature Reserves Ordinance 1998 and the National Parks and Nature Reserves Regulations 1999.
According to SFC, the session was aimed at reviewing, harmonising and refining the legal provisions governing crocodile management and totally protected areas, including national parks and nature reserves.
“The objective was to ensure that the proposed legislative instruments are legally sound, aligned with current conservation and enforcement needs, and consistent with existing state laws and policies.
“The engagement with the State Attorney-General’s Chambers was essential to address legal interpretations, refine drafting provisions and resolve outstanding issues prior to submission for further State approval processes,” SFC said in a Facebook statement.
The workshop was chaired by the Sarawak Attorney-General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali, while the SFC delegation was led by its general manager Abang Arabi Abang Aimran.
