SIBU: Members of the public are invited to a free World Social Work Day 2026 Seminar this Saturday at Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI).
The event, which is organised by MPI’s Department of Social Work, will take place at Lecture Hall 2 from 9 am until 12 noon.
According to MPI’s press release today, the theme ‘Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society’ is aimed at inviting participants to reflect, engage, and collaborate in strengthening unity, resilience, and social cohesion within the communities.
“By bringing different groups together, the seminar hopes to raise awareness about social issues, promoting teamwork, and encouraging a shared responsibility for building a better future.
“It also aims to allow members of the public to get to know about social work and the importance of social workers for the development of a society and community.
“It will feature two social work experts, Dr Ling How Kee and Gill Raja, and Medical Social Work from Sibu Hospital, Florida Mathew Maris,” the statement said.
Dr Ling will talk on ‘The Harambee Spirit: Social Work and Community Building’, Gill will talk on ‘Global Theme: Local Action – Focus on Children’, and Florida will speak on ‘Medical Social Works Services at Health Facilities’.
