SIBU: The Sibu Division Drug Eradication Action Council (MTMD) Meeting No. 1/25 has unanimously expressed its solidarity in support of the vape ban here and Sarawak in general.

According to Sibu Resident and Chairman of the MTMD Sibu Division meeting, Abang Mohammad Porkan Abang Budiman, the current drug abuse situation is very concerning.

“The emergence of new drugs, such as ‘magic mushrooms’ poses a serious threat to the younger generation.

“These drugs are often consumed using electronic cigarettes, commonly known as ‘vapes’, which have harmful effects on users,” he said when chairing the meeting on Friday.

He emphasised the importance of cooperation among all agencies, departments, and community leaders to unite in the fight against the country’s number one enemy – drugs.

He believes that with community collaboration and empowerment, issues of social deviation and drug abuse can be effectively curbed within society.

During the meeting, he also congratulated and expressed his appreciation to the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD Sibu) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), especially for the largest drug bust in Sarawak.

He also called on all parties to be vigilant and concerned about drug abuse issues in today’s society to nurture healthy, active individuals, and ensure a safe environment in line with the ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ mission.

The Sibu National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), as the secretariat of the meeting, was instructed to bring the decisions made at the meeting to higher authorities.
