KUCHING: X-FAB Sarawak Sdn Bhd was crowned the winner of the Premier’s Digital Economy Award with their Automatic Image Recognition (AIR) project, in conjunction with the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25).

The presentation of the award took place during the IDECS25 Gala Dinner which was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Wednesday (Oct 22).

X-FAB was recognised for its outstanding contributions in driving innovation and digital transformation in Sarawak, earning the opportunity to represent the region at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in March 2026, with all expenses fully covered.

In addition, X-FAB Sarawak also received the Digital Technology Transformation Award, taking home a cash prize of RM10,000 along with a trophy and certificate, in recognition of its significant achievements in advancing the digital technology sector.

The gala also marked the presentation of the Sarawak Digital Economy Awards 2025, which honour excellence across various categories.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak was named the winner of the Research & Development and Commercialization Award, while the Digital Creative Content Award was presented to Ensera Sdn Bhd.

The Land and Survey Department Sarawak earned the Digital Government Award.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Sustainability Award went to Bahagian Teknologi Hutan dan Geospatial, Jabatan Hutan Sarawak, and the Mukah Division Resident Office was honoured with the Digital Leadership Award.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the award is not merely a prize but an investment — an opportunity for Sarawak’s brightest talents to learn from global leaders and bring that knowledge back home.

“Recognising these innovators tonight is significant. We reward bold ideas because they carry Sarawak’s ambition to the world,” he said.
