KUCHING: Sarawakian Voon Xue Zhi, 23, was selected to represent Malaysia at the SEA Judo Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, following her outstanding performance at the Terengganu Open Judo Championship 2025.
Following her bronze medal win and exemplary show of skills in the Senior (-57 kg) category, the Sarawak Judo Association (PJS) athlete expressed a deep sense of pride and gratitude on being selected for the national squad.
“I am truly humbled and overjoyed to have been selected as a national player, following in my sister’s (Voon Xue Jia) footsteps. This is a dream come true and a moment I will cherish forever,” she told Sarawak Tribune recently.
“It was not just a personal achievement but a reflection of the support I have received from my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me.
“Wearing the national jersey is the highest honour, and I feel an immense sense of pride and responsibility to represent my country,” said the 23-year old college student.
With national recognition comes new challenges, and Xue Zhi is determined to rise to the occasion.
“My goal is to give my absolute best every time I step onto the mat. I want to contribute to the team’s success, inspire the next generation of players just like my sister, and make my nation proud,” she said.
Seeing how this is merely the beginning of her journey, Xue Zhi is committed to rise to the occasion.
“This is just the beginning, and I am committed to working even harder, improving my skills, and striving for excellence.
“I hope to be a role model and show that with passion, perseverance, and teamwork, anything is possible,” she concluded.
