KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap inspected three sites on Monday in a proactive move to address persistent drainage issues and flash flooding concerns along Jalan Semaba.

He was accompanied by engineers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

The inspections covered several earth drains earmarked for urgent upgrading, forming part of three proposed Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects under Yap’s constituency allocation.

A total of RM700,000 has been set aside for these projects to enhance drainage systems and improve infrastructure in the area.

“These visits are essential in helping us assess the actual condition of the drains on-site so that MPP can prepare the detailed scope of works and bill of quantities for the RTP upgrades,” Yap said.

During the visit, he and the MPP engineering team reviewed technical aspects of the proposed works to ensure the drainage improvements would effectively mitigate longstanding water flow problems and flash flooding.

“Proper drainage is crucial to preventing flash floods and maintaining the safety and comfort of our community.

“Today’s inspection allows us to finalise the necessary plans and cost estimates so that these projects can proceed smoothly under the RTP initiatives,” he added.

He thanked the Padawan Municipal Council for their close cooperation and assured residents that the projects would be implemented promptly and with minimal disruption to the community.

The drainage upgrades are expected to begin once final approvals and disbursement of RTP funds are completed.
