KUCHING: Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPEIM) has channelled a total of RM50,550 in aid to flood-affected families and students in need through three separate programmes in Sarawak.

According to YAPEIM Director-General, Zabidi Nasan, the assistance included food bank distributions, Back-to-School support, and cash aid for asnaf and B40 students.

“Today marks another new chapter as YAPEIM channels a total contribution of RM50,550, benefiting students and families in need through three separate programme handovers in Sarawak,” he said in his speech at the event at the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru multipurpose hall today (Jan 22).

Furthermore, he said RM11,400 in flood relief aid was distributed in the form of food bank assistance to 114 recipients, while RM4,700 was channelled through Back To School aid to 47 recipients in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru.

“I was informed earlier that the beneficiaries are among families and students affected by the recent floods. I hope this contribution will benefit those impacted and help ease their burden,” he added.

He shared that YAPEIM also extended its assistance to Kota Samarahan through a combination of school-based support and direct aid for students from asnaf and B40 families.

“YAPEIM also provided RM5,000 in cash assistance to Sekolah Kebangsaan Agama Ibnu Khaldun, Kota Samarahan, to be distributed to asnaf and B40 students,” he said.

“In addition, RM200 in cash aid was given to 100 Muslim students from the asnaf and B40 categories, bringing the total assistance to RM20,000.”

Meanwhile, he said YAPEIM also supported university students through its Back-To-School and food bank initiatives, while ensuring smooth programme delivery across Sarawak.

“YAPEIM contributed RM4,000 in Back-To-School aid and food bank assistance to 20 students at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Kota Samarahan Campus, and covered RM5,450 in programme implementation costs across the three locations,” he added.

Zabidi said the assistance was made possible through public contributions channelled through YAPEIM’s trust fund.

“The contributions distributed are the result of public donations to the YAPEIM Trust Fund before being channelled to identified target groups,” he concluded.
