KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering local students by assisting those from underprivileged backgrounds in pursuing higher education.
Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said that last year alone, Yayasan Sarawak wrote off student loans amounting to between RM7 million and RM8 million for students in public higher education institutions (IPTAs).
“These loans were written off for several reasons, including academic excellence, student appeals, and in cases where students had passed away, their loans were automatically cancelled,” he said.
He said this when met by the media at the his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 Open House at Dewan Hikmah, Petra Jaya today.
The Tupong assemblyman also added that this initiative clearly reflects the state government’s continuous efforts to ensure that Sarawakian students are not left behind in education, thereby opening up greater opportunities for their future.
“We are confident that through Yayasan Sarawak, many students have been supported and given the opportunity to further their studies at a higher level,” he added.
This measure underscores the state government’s concern for shaping a knowledgeable generation, in line with its aspiration to make Sarawak a developed state through quality education.
