KUCHING: While fans eagerly await the dazzling performances of top-tier teams at the upcoming Sarawak Open Handball Championship 2025, one new name is beginning to stir quiet concern among established contenders – Hyggo.
Despite being a relative newcomer, Hyggo has quickly carved out a reputation, thanks to its lineup of promising young talents.
According to the Secretary-General of the Sarawak Handball Association (SAHA), Dr Abang Ismail Abang Julhi, the club’s emergence should not be underestimated.
“This team (Hyggo) has the potential to cause major upsets and certainly poses a threat to other teams,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
He noted that although Hyggo was only established last year, they have already clinched success in several competitions.
He believes this momentum is a positive benchmark for the club – and a sign that Hyggo could well break into the top three this September.
The Sarawak Open Handball Championship 2025, scheduled to take place at UNIMAS, Kota Samarahan, from Sept 15-18, will feature a total of 38 teams.
A total of 24 men’s teams will vie for the 18th Edition Premier Sarawak Cup Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, while 14 women’s teams will compete for the 13th Edition Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi Cup.
