MIRI: A young doctor serving at Bintulu Hospital has died following a single-vehicle crash along the Pan Borneo Highway near Suai on Thursday afternoon.
Dr Ahmad Rafizee Mohd Saian, 32, was driving alone from Miri to Bintulu when his car reportedly lost control and veered off the road at Kilometre 823.2 of the highway.
The vehicle, a Perodua Myvi, is believed to have skidded into the left shoulder before plunging into nearby undergrowth.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities are appealing to members of the public, who may have witnessed the crash or have relevant information, to come forward.

In a Facebook post, Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, expressed his sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
“Dr Rafizee was a bright and dedicated young doctor. He carried out his duties with unwavering integrity and compassion.
“His passing is a profound loss not just to Bintulu Hospital, but to the entire Ministry of Health,” he wrote.
“I pray that his family finds the strength to endure this heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. May his soul be blessed and granted peace.”
