SRI AMAN: Southern Zone cyclist and bicycle mechanic Kenny Lim Zhen Xiang is pedalling toward new heights, inspired by Olympic gold medallist Remco Evenepoel, as he sets his sights on the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026.
The 21-year-old from Kuching made a strong impression at the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV 2026, where he was named Promising Male Athlete following a disciplined and consistent campaign.
Kenny balances his cycling career with work as a mechanic at Thong Hin Cycle, giving him a hands-on connection to the sport beyond competition.
“It all comes down to hard training and staying motivated every day,” said Kenny, who credited preparation and mental strength for his performances throughout the Games.
He revealed he had saved RM1,500 from prize money and personal funds to support his cycling ambitions.
“I’ve spent almost RM10,000 on my bicycle, but I’m happy with what I have — it’s already top quality,” he added.
Kenny, who studied at SMK Green Road, has taken his competitive journey as far as Kuala Lumpur, with hopes to push beyond local boundaries.
“I’ll keep training and joining tournaments when I can — I’ll let the bicycle take me where it wants to go,” he said.
He capped the meet by winning the men’s road race title and finishing with four gold medals overall, underlining his emergence as one of Sarawak’s most promising young cyclists.
