KUCHING: Mohd Faridzhuan Firdaus Mohd Nanyan emerged as the grand prize winner of the Sarawak Islamic Council’s (MIS) 70th anniversary logo design contest, beating 137 other submissions from across the state.

The 31-year-old’s winning design symbolises 70 years of progress and continuity, integrating the numbers seven and zero with a dynamic forward-moving line.

According to Mohd Faridzhuan, the design reflects MIS’s evolution and future vision, anchored by Islamic heritage.

“The gold colour represents prestige, while the Islamic typographic element at the top signifies the spiritual legacy that MIS has upheld for the past seven decades,” he said when met at the Majlis Kesyukuran held in conjunction with MIS’s 70th anniversary at its hall yesterday (May 25).

The ceremony was officiated by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Mohd Faridzhuan completed the design in just three days, marking his first foray into a large-scale design competition.

He was proud that his work was selected personally by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Masya Allah, I gave it my best. My intention was to develop strong branding for MIS’s 70th anniversary programme, which runs until 2026. I hope the design helps spread its message throughout Sarawak,” he said.

He added: “Insyallah, I will continue contributing my creative work to the state. Thank you to the Premier and Tun for this honour.”

As the grand prize winner, he received RM3,000 in cash and a certificate of participation, presented by Wan Junaidi.

Out of the 138 entries, Abang Johari personally selected the top three, with two others receiving consolation prizes of RM400 each along with certificates of participation.

The contest also served as a symbolic prelude to the official soft launch of the anniversary logo during the Majlis Kesyukuran, with the full logo launch set for Jul 29 at the same venue.

The logo competition forms part of the lead-up to MIS’s 70th anniversary celebrations, which will take place from May 25 this year until Apr 23, 2026, in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Mukah, and Miri.
