KUCHING: The sacrificial ritual observed during Hari Raya Aidiladha is increasingly being embraced by the younger generation.

The sacred tradition must therefore be preserved and practiced with collective responsibility.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri stated this at the ibadah korban ceremony held at Kampung Tabuan Hilir here.

She said the meaningful sacrifice emphasised its importance as a cultural and religious legacy deeply rooted in the Islamic community.

“The event also underscored the value of collaboration across all levels of society to ensure the continuity of this religious practice that unites hearts and communities,” she said at the ceremony, organised by Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) in collaboration with with her Santubong parliamentary constituency at Masjid Darus Sa’adah on Saturday.

She said the annual ibadah korban ceremony is not just about the slaughtering of sacrificial animals, but also a manifestation of sincerity, obedience and love for fellow human beings.

“It also encourages us to emulate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail in prioritising God’s command above all else.

“The act of sacrifice in the form of distributing sustenance and building a spirit of togetherness where those who are capable help those in need, unconditionally, without barriers. With the sacrifice we carry out once a year, at the very least, the less fortunate can also experience the blessings of having meat like others,” she said.

Nancy said under her parliamentary constituency, three state constituencies are also working together with local NGOs.

“Today, for example, we are partnering with Yadim, this collaboration allows us to channel assistance effectively, with their support in organising key activities, ensuring that no village is left behind.

“From these efforts, we can see the strong commitment of the village communities in carrying out the korban ritual, many are even contributing financially on their own initiative.

“At the same time, these events strengthen the bonds of unity and friendship among the people,” she said.

Also present at the ceremony were Penghulu Tabuan Melayu, Amzah Dollah and Yadim Sarawak’s director Awang Dulhadi Awang Mat.
