MIRI: The next generation of fighters took centre stage as LION30 Muay Thai Club Miri emerged overall champion at the Miri Amateur MuayThai Challenge 2025.
They captured a stunning 13 gold medals and several top honours at the two-day event held at Permy Mall from October 31 to November 1.
The club’s athletes displayed exceptional skill and composure throughout the competition, which featured around 140 fighters from across the region.
LION30 not only dominated the amateur bouts but also made their mark in the semi-pro divisions with two impressive title victories.
Mohammad Azmeer stood out as one of the stars of the tournament, earning the coveted Best Boxer Award, the only such recognition given among all participating athletes.
He also captured the Semi-Pro Trophy Champion title in the 60-63.5kg category, winning by decision after a hard-fought contest.
Meanwhile, Chelsea Ting thrilled the home crowd with a spectacular early knockout victory, stopping his opponent, Mohd Hakim from Tugau Muay Thai, just one minute into the first round to secure the Semi-Pro Trophy Champion (67-71kg) title.
LION30’s overall dominance was crowned with the ‘Overall Team Champion’ trophy, symbolising the club’s strong team spirit, discipline, and commitment to excellence.
Club owner, Eric Ting Zhi Xuan, expressed immense pride in his athletes’ achievements, especially the young fighters who demonstrated maturity and sportsmanship beyond their years.
“We’re very proud of our fighters, especially the youth athletes who showed strong discipline, teamwork and passion for Muay Thai.
“This achievement marks another great step in promoting Muay Thai and youth sports development in Miri,” Eric told Sarawak Tribune today.
He added that the club’s continued success highlights Miri’s growing reputation as a centre for Muay Thai development in Sarawak, inspiring more young people to take up the sport.
