KUCHING: A middle-aged grandmother living with multiple illnesses is being cared for by her young grandchildren at Kampung Temenggong, Matang, here.
Ros Udin, who once worked at a school canteen, stopped working years ago due to deteriorating health, suffering from diabetes that led to visual impairment and the amputation of one leg.
Most of her time is now spent confined to her room, and a recent visit by Hope Place Kuching revealed she may have several undiagnosed medical conditions.
Ros lives with her two grandchildren aged seven and four, while her daughter only known as Haslinda, the sole breadwinner, works in a town area and stays in the company hostel, visiting her family only on her off days.
Although Ros’ sister also lives in the house, she is occupied caring for her husband, who has had a stroke, and her own child.
With no one else available to help, the grandchildren have taken on primary caregiving duties, feeding and bathing their grandmother, changing her diapers, tidying their shared room, and clearing rubbish every day.
Hope Place Kuching has been providing the family with adult diapers and basic food aid, expressing gratitude to donors who support families like Ros’.
Those who wish to support the family can contact Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Donations can also be made directly to Maybank account number 511289001160.
