KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, in collaboration with the Bursa Young Investor Club (BYIC) Swinburne Sarawak, has officially launched the much-anticipated Young Investor Challenge (YIC) 2025.

The event drew over 175 participants from 19 universities and colleges across Malaysia, Brunei, China, Vietnam and Australia, further establishing Swinburne Sarawak’s growing reputation as a regional hub for financial education and innovation.

Dean of the Faculty of Business, Design, and Arts at Swinburne Sarawak, Professor Dr Brian Wong Kee Mun, in his virtual opening address, noted the university’s commitment to integrating people and technology for a better future

“YIC2025 provides students with invaluable, hands-on experience, enhancing their understanding of ESG metrics, financial instruments, and sustainable investing practices,” he said.

Themed ‘Investing for Tomorrow: Innovate, Sustain, Succeed’, YIC2025 focuses on sustainable finance, modern investment tools, and strategic decision-making.

The event kicked off on May 24 with a high-octane Kahoot! quiz during the Preliminary Round, challenging participants’ financial knowledge and capital market insights.

The top 20 scorers will move on to the Grand Finale, scheduled for June 21, where finalists will compete in the ‘Pinch & Prosper’ round presenting solutions to real-world case studies designed to test innovation, ethics, and sustainability in investing.

BYIC Swinburne Sarawak President, Britney Ten Ying Xi, warmly welcomed the international participants and stressed the event’s inclusive nature.

BYIC has grown from a local initiative into an internationally recognised platform for financial literacy and youth empowerment, and that this challenge marks a significant milestone in fostering a new generation of informed, responsible investors.

YIC2025 is proudly supported by Macquarie Capital Securities Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants x Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (MICPA x CA ANZ) as platinum sponsors.

“Over RM3,000 in cash prizes are up for grabs, including a Best Innovative Award.

“All participants will receive e-certificates of participation and achievement in recognition of their efforts and commitment,” Ten said.

BYIC Adviser, Dr Yii Kwang Jing, remarked that this challenge is more than just a competition.

“It is a dynamic platform designed to nurture the next generation of strategic, ethical investors who are equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving financial world,” he said.

The 20 finalists advancing to the Grand Finale represent prestigious institutions, including Swinburne Sarawak, Monash University Malaysia, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, University of Malaya, and University of Nottingham Malaysia.
