Young man jailed 15 months for assaulting three individuals

KUCHING: A 21-year-old local man was sentenced to a total of 15 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today (April 16) for voluntarily causing hurt to three individuals in an incident at Jalan Northbank here last October.

Muhammad Irfan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the three charges framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

According to the charges, he intentionally caused injury to three male victims aged between 17 and 22 by punching them.

The offences were committed at a parking lot in front of a clinic along Jalan Northbank at about 5.20 am on October 10, 2025.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant and about 10 of his friends were gathered at the location when they were suddenly approached by a group of men.

The accused, who arrived with others in three vehicles, then allegedly assaulted the complainant and several of his friends using a baseball bat. The motive of the attack remains unknown.

Several victims sustained bruises to the head, face and eyes following the incident, prompting a police report to be lodged.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the accused on October 30, 2025. Police investigations later established his involvement in causing injury to the three victims by punching them.

The court sentenced Muhammad Irfan to four months’ imprisonment for the first charge, and three months each for the second and third charges.

All sentences are to run consecutively, bringing the total jail term to 15 months.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani, while the accused was unrepresented.
