KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a road accident involving a lorry along Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa here this morning (Jan 17).

Kota Samarahan Police Chief, Supt Damataries Lautin, said the fatal crash occurred at about 10.30 am at Kilometre 18 of the road, involving a Honda CBR250RR motorcycle and a Hino lorry.

“Initial investigations found that the motorcyclist was travelling from the 7th Mile, Kota Sentosa, direction towards Kota Samarahan when he lost control while negotiating a bend.

“The motorcycle veered into the opposite lane and collided with the rear right tyre of the lorry, which was travelling straight in its lane,” he said in a statement.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene at around 10.53 am, while the lorry driver was uninjured.

The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Sarawak General Hospital for further procedures.

Damataries said the road at the location was a one-way, three-lane stretch with dry and even surface conditions at the time of the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have recorded statements and are in the process of locating independent witnesses to assist with the investigation.
