MUKAH: Politeknik Mukah (PMU) Department of Mechanical Engineering has collaborated with Smart Green PolyCC PMU and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak recently, to organise a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme ‘Generasi Muda Prihatin: Aluminium Awareness and Recycling for Environmental Sustainability’.
Programme director, Rosidi Mohamad Nor said the initiative helped to raise awareness about the environmental impact of waste and also fosters social responsibility values among the younger generation.
“Environmental sustainability requires a collective action, and programmes like this are a proactive step to educate the community on recycling as part of daily life.
“We hope this programme can increase community involvement in joint efforts to preserve the sustainability of our planet,” he said.
Meanwhile, PMU expressed its appreciation to all parties involved, including NREB Sarawak, for their support in implementing a programme that benefits both the environment and the local community.
The programme was attended by 100 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Three Rivers and SMK Saint Patrick Mukah, and was officially launched by PMU’s deputy director (Academic Support) Sophian Sout.
Its main objective is to expose participants to the aluminium recycling process, the importance of reducing solid waste, and adhere to sustainable environmental practices in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the programme, participants had the opportunity to observe various demonstrations and engage in hands-on activities, such as melting used aluminium and producing recycled aluminium-based products.
NREB officers also conducted a sharing session on the role of the community in responsible waste management.
