He was talking about the re-construction and improvement of Ulu Suai road in Niah, which he said proved that the state government was committed to developing rural infrastructure.

“I know people in this area have been waiting for a long time (30 years) for this project,” said Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure, Development and Transportation.

Masing, who is also president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), noted that nearly 7,000 people in the area would benefit once the 19-km road is tar sealed by March 2021.

“The road will serve four villages, 14 longhouses, one clinic, four schools and three oil palm plantations,” he said during his opening speech prior to yesterday morning’s ground breaking ceremony for the road project. The ceremony was held at Tuai Rumah Libau Usang longhouse in Suai, about 97km from Miri city.

The state government, he said, has always wanted the people, especially those in the rural areas, to benefit from government-funded development projects.
