KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya of the Premier’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) emphasized the pivotal role of youth in combating corruption, particularly in today’s borderless media landscape. He highlighted the youth as invaluable assets in uprooting corruption.

In his address at the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day (HARA) event for the Sarawak Zone at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), he underscored the unprecedented reach of modern media in swiftly disseminating awareness about corruption issues.

Dr Juanda Jaya pointed out that tech-savvy young individuals possess the potential to be catalysts for change by leveraging advanced technologies to combat corruption effectively.

Drawing attention to the dire situation in Venezuela, where corruption and power abuse led to economic collapse, he stressed how corruption deprived the populace of their rightful share of wealth, underscoring the importance of curbing corrupt practices.

He reiterated the Sarawak government’s unwavering commitment to combat corruption comprehensively, beginning with grassroots efforts.

Anti-corruption campaigns and educational programs are actively underway to ensure that forthcoming generations grasp the adverse impacts of corruption on society and the economy.

The HARA 2024 event for the Sarawak Zone aimed to elevate public consciousness regarding the perils of corruption, with a specific focus on engaging youth in fostering an ethos of integrity and transparency at both state and national levels.

The event also saw the participation of key figures such as Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh, Director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak, Datuk Razim Mohd. Noor, Deputy President of PAKAR Malaysia, alongside other distinguished representatives.
