KUCHING: The 5th ASEAN Energy Youth Awards (AEYA), held on September 3 and 4 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), showcased the pivotal role of young people in driving the region’s renewable energy future, with 384 submissions received from across ASEAN.
Jointly organised by Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), the event was held in conjunction with the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) 4.0, with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof present at SAREF’s closing ceremony.
“This year’s competition attracted 384 submissions across three categories – Policy Pitch (156), Video (34) and Infographics (194) – from participants representing Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Singapore,” SEB and ACE said in a recent joint statement
Carrying the theme ‘Powering ASEAN’s Future: Youth Innovation in Hydropower and Renewable Energy’, the awards invited ASEAN youth aged 15 to 35 to present innovative solutions to advance the region’s sustainable energy agenda.
Final presentations by the top three entrants in each category were held at the SAREF 4.0 Youth Pavilion, featuring five finalists from Indonesia, three from the Philippines and one from Cambodia.
Winners of each category received cash prizes, with USD1,000 for first place, USD750 for second, and USD500 for third.
In the Creative Advocacy Track (Infographic) category, Fisconomics emerged champion, followed by AQUA Wŏ Men and AUB-PL.
In the Creative Advocacy Track (Video Challenge), Jhun Jhun Agustin took first place, with Prince Loyd Cabalida Besorio and Mareeno Anang Septianto finishing second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Innovation Lab Track (Policy Pitch) category, the winner was Francheska Jhoy Panganiban Rembulat, with Muh Fauzan H and Michael as runner-up and second runner-up.
Similarly, Sarawak Energy’s Senior Vice-President for Corporate Services, Siti Aisah Adenan, commended the participants for their creativity and determination in championing renewable energy.
“Their ideas reflect the region’s shared vision of a sustainable energy future,” she said.
