
KUCHING: An outing among a group of friends at Jangkar Waterfall turned tragic when one of them drowned last Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Alan Abang Udin, 21.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received around 12.40pm, informing them of the incident in Kampung Jangkar, Jalan Biawak, Lundu.
Nine firefighters in a van and two four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles from Lundu fire station were immediately dispatched to the scene to locate the victim.
They were also assisted by five personnel from Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM) and Multi-Skill Team (MUST).
The department said the deceased was found by villagers from Kampung Jantan at stage 1 of the waterfall around 2.30pm. The body was later taken to the operations centre in Kampung Jangkar where the firefighters handed it over to police for further action.
State Bomba assistant director of operations, Tiong Ling Hii was also at the scene.
It was learnt that the deceased was from Batu Kawa.
