He said it plays a vital role in fostering unity, preserving cultural heritage, and shaping disciplined and morally upright youth.

“Silat embodies core values such as discipline, bravery, and courtesy.

“I hope participants will demonstrate sportsmanship and use this tournament as an opportunity to strengthen camaraderie and collaboration,” he said.

He said this while representing Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee when officiating at the 2024 SSRC MLNG & Mayang Mengurai Sarawak Closed Pencak Silat Championship, held at the Pavilion Hall, Kidurong Club Bintulu (KKB) on Sunday (Dec 29).

Organised by the MLNG Sport Social and Recreational Club (SSRC) and the Mayang Mengurai Sarawak Silat Brotherhood Association (PPSMMS), the event drew 135 participants from across Sarawak.

The championship aims to nurture active, healthy, and competitive silat practitioners, elevating the martial art to new heights.

Seven categories were contested, namely Solo Empty-Handed Form, Solo Weapon Form, Group Flower Kick (male and female), Pair Flower Kick (male and female), Solo Flower Kick, Golden Colong Flower, and 3×3 Youth Competition.
