BETONG: Over 100 community leaders, youth representatives, and local stakeholders gathered for the Building Inclusive Community (BIC) 3.0 programme here for two days, aiming to boost inclusive and sustainable development across rural Sarawak.

Held from June 28 to 29, BIC 3.0 was organised by AZAM Sarawak in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak; the Youth Empowerment Society Sarawak (YES Sarawak); AZAM Young Souls (AYS); and the Betong Resident’s Office.

The two-day programme featured self-reflection sessions, discussions on inclusion, and dialogues with local authorities.

Participants explored strategies to empower communities and ensure no one is left behind in Sarawak’s development.

YES Sarawak founder Afiq Khatem led sessions on youth mobilisation and grassroots empowerment.

Meanwhile, Robita Robinson from the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit outlined the state’s Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030, highlighting the vital role of local communities.

AYS Deputy President Asnol Khuzairy offered practical advice on amplifying youth voices in local initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Betong District Officer Laga Kueh, representing the Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, praised the initiative as a crucial step for rural empowerment.

“This is a relevant initiative addressing the real needs of rural communities.

“True inclusivity begins at the grassroots; when communities are given a voice, awareness and ownership of development follow,” he said.

AZAM Sarawak Chief Executive Officer Ali Suhaili underscored the programme’s significance.

“BIC 3.0 showcases the importance of strategic communication in social development.

“Rooted in the spirit of the Movement for Progress, we are committed to ensuring no one is left behind in the journey towards social justice and equality,” he said.

Encouraged by the success of the Betong edition, AZAM Sarawak plans to bring BIC to Balingian and Dalat, strengthening community networks and advancing holistic development across Sarawak.
