KUCHING: About 200 residents of Kampung Sadir received much-needed assistance ahead of Chinese New Year when the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Batu Kawa carried out its 2026 community outreach project on Jan 31.
The programme, themed “Sharing Joy – Vision for the Future,” saw the distribution of 41 pairs of custom prescription spectacles to elderly residents and children, aimed at improving their vision, independence and overall quality of life.
Organising chairperson Jess Chong said the initiative reflects JCI Batu Kawa’s 2026 theme, “Just Connect,” which emphasises stronger collaboration between youth, communities, government and local businesses.
“Our goal is not just to plan, but to take action. A better Sarawak is a shared responsibility, and youth must be part of the solution,” she said.
Local president Justine Yong added that the programme highlights the role youth-led organisations can play in driving sustainable, people-centred community development.
JCI Batu Kawa also thanked volunteers and partners for their fundraising efforts and support, while encouraging continued participation in initiatives that benefit underserved communities.
