KUCHING: The mentality among youth towards cleanliness at stalls and bazaars has improved, according to Datuk Lo Khere Chiang.
“I would like to congratulate the youth; they have adopted a mindset that contributes significantly to the cleanliness in the bazaars.
“If we visit Japan or South Korea, we’ll notice that they do not litter because their mindset is different,” he told reporters during his Ramadan Bazaar walkabout at the Prince Commercial Centre today (March 15).
Moreover, he congratulated the Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) for their collective effort with the community to ensure cleanliness at Ramadan stalls.
“Overall, the cleanliness is commendable. Unlike other places where rats are a common sight, we don’t encounter that here. Cleanliness is paramount,” he added.
Furthermore, Lo highlighted that the cleanliness of stalls not only enhances the overall environment but also boosts tourism, which is advantageous for businesses.
“Cleanliness encourages tourism. This applies not just to our hawker stalls but also to our facilities, as I’ve noticed our toilets becoming cleaner. A clean toilet indicates a well-managed place,” he said.
Lo was accompanied by the deputy PMC chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and councillors.
