SARIKEI: Youth in the state have been urged to continue embracing leadership through service.
Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said true leadership grows through action and not just words.
“Leadership isn’t a finish line you cross one day. It’s a path we walk every single day. We show it through the decisions we make, how we choose to help others, and the way we work together for the good of our communities.
“True leadership grows through action, not just words, and it starts right where we are today,” he said.

Huang’s speech was delivered by Sarikei District Council Chairperson, Wong Zee Yeng, during the closing ceremony of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sarawak Convention here on Sunday.
Addressing the more than 200 delegates in attendance, he commended their active participation and vibrant energy, which he said brought the convention to life.
“JCI doesn’t just build leaders; it builds relationships that last. The person beside you could be your future collaborator, mentor or even a lifelong friend,” Huang added.
He noted that throughout the convention, delegates engaged in sessions centred around leadership, innovation, sustainability and empowerment.
“The convention may come to an end, but the real work begins now. Turn ideas into action and maintain the connections that you have built. Remember, you are not alone. You are part of a network of changemakers across Sarawak,” he elaborated.
Quoting Mother Teresa, he encouraged the youth to “do small things with great love” and said that the power of consistent and sincere contributions does spark meaningful change.
