KUCHING: Mastery of technology, digital skills and innovative thinking with an attitude of wanting to learn throughout life are the keys to future success.
This is especially so in the era of Industrial Revolution 4. 0 and now moving towards increasingly advanced digital technology.
Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament, Datuk Willie Mongin, said in view of that, policy makers, parents, teachers and all learning institutions need to ensure that the young generation is not left behind.
He believed that through early exposure, schools in Sarawak will be able to produce more skilled workers, engineers, technology experts, innovative entrepreneurs and leaders who will contribute to the development of the state and country.
“To the students, I would like to advise them to always appreciate the opportunities given. Use your time at school to gain as much knowledge as possible. Dare to dream big and work hard to achieve it.
“Remember that success does not come easily, but through continuous effort, discipline and determination,” he said at the closing of STEM & TVET Catalyst Showcase 2026 and Session 2026 Supervisor Leadership Programme at SMK Tun Abdul Razak here today.
Willie noted that the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET) fields are no longer a side option, but rather are among the main thrusts in the development of the country’s human capital.
Today’s world, he said, demands a young generation that is not only academically excellent, but also has practical skills, problem-solving abilities, creativity and high innovation power.
“Through the showcase programme as we witnessed at SMK Tun Abdul Razak today, students are given space to explore ideas, build projects, try new technologies, and apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to real situations.
“Activities such as the robotics and innovation showcase not only increase interest in STEM, but also build self-confidence, teamwork and critical thinking among students,” he added.
Willie congratulated all the students who have been directly involved in the competitions and workshops, saying every piece of work displayed today is proof that the children have great potential.
