SIBU: The younger generation in the state is urged to emulate the spirit of Sarawak’s leaders, who have consistently prioritised unity and harmony in a diverse society.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Chief, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said that the stability and peace enjoyed by the people today are the result of the continuous efforts of state leaders in fostering close relations between races and religions.
“The unity we have today is not a coincidence, but rather born from the struggle and commitment of Sarawak’s leaders, who have always strived to unite people from various backgrounds.
“Therefore, the younger generation must follow suit and continue this effort to ensure peace and harmony in the community,” he said at the Gong Xi Raya Programme organised by the MADANI Community, Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, at SMI Park, West Bank, here recently.
In this regard, Kevin, who is also the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, emphasised that the younger generation must focus on the development of the state and community, in line with efforts to strengthen unity.
“This will not only determine our future today, but also the future of the next generations. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continue striving to build a more developed, united, and resilient Sarawak,” he said.
Kevin also said that the Gong Xi Raya Programme is not just a combination of two festive celebrations, but is more significant as a tangible manifestation of community unity.
“With the presence of various levels of society, this programme has become a symbol of unity that reflects the unique values of Sarawak that we are very proud of,” he said.
Meanwhile, he expressed his highest appreciation to the local community, especially the seven Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in the Bawang Assan area, for their commitment and cooperation in making the programme a success.
He also expressed his appreciation to the local residents who attended in encouraging numbers, thus proving the strong spirit of togetherness within the community.
“The spirit of unity displayed not only became the pillar of strength for the local community, but also contributed to the stability and progress of Sarawak as a whole,” Kevin added.
