KUCHING: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) successfully organised the Deepavali Get Together 2025 themed “Where Diversity Shines,” held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) yesterday.
In a statement today, the event aimed to bring together youths and communities from various backgrounds in the spirit of Deepavali, fostering friendship, understanding, and appreciation of Sarawak’s cultural diversity.
“The dinner was attended by more than 150 guests, including YPS partners, Indian associations from Kuching, government and non-government representatives, faith-based and ethnic-based organisations, and YPS Ambassadors.
“Among the evening’s highlights were traditional Indian crafts and kolam displays, a cultural fashion showcase, interactive booths, and captivating live performances by local talents and YPS Sape Ambassadors.
“The event served as a lively platform for guests to experience and appreciate the richness of Indian traditions, food, heritage, and artistry.”
According to a YPS spokesperson, the event held special significance as it provided an opportunity to celebrate the Festival of Lights together with the Indian community in the city.
“As an NGO that promotes unity within Sarawak’s diverse communities, this occasion may seem small, but for YPS, it holds great meaning as it reflects our vision to foster unity, celebrate diversity, and preserve our rich cultural heritage.”
The spokesperson also quoted the late YPS chairman Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who once said, “There cannot exist a strong Sarawak unless all races bring Sarawak together.”
YPS further expressed that unity begins within each heart, through compassion, understanding, and love.
The foundation hopes that the light of unity will continue to shine brightly within families, communities, Sarawak, and the nation as a whole.
