KUCHING: MAKSAK Sarawak’s veteran men’s doubles team secured 3rd place at the Badminton MAKSAK Games 2025, after falling to MAKSAK Johor in the semi-finals on Friday.
Despite a strong start from Sarawak’s Yusriazmi Yusuf and Affendi Merican, Johor’s Sazali Suratman and Syed Hussin Syed Mustafa took the first set 21-18.
Sarawak showed resilience in the second set but ultimately conceded to a 15-21 lost, handing Johor the victory.
Speaking to Sarawak Tribune post-match, team manager Mohamed Azlan Ahmad praised the veterans’ performance, noting that the team overcame injuries to reach the semi-finals.
“Last year, we finished second, but this year’s pair was new. They even managed to beat last year’s second-place pair during the selection stage,” he explained.
Azlan emphasised that, despite the challenges, reaching the semi-finals was a solid achievement. “It was a good result considering the injuries, and we’ll work harder next year,” he added.
He also highlighted the men’s veterans as one of the team’s key strengths, noting the depth of talent in this category.
