KUCHING: The zakat fitrah rate in Sarawak for the year 2026/1447H has been maintained at RM7.50 per person, the same as last year.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said that zakat not only purifies the soul and wealth but also ensures the welfare of the asnaf is safeguarded.
“Zakat ensures the welfare of the asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat) and others in need is safeguarded, allowing them to celebrate Aidilfitri more fully. Therefore, Muslims are urged to fulfil their obligations diligently,” he said.
He said this in his speech when officiating the Sarawak Islamic Council Contributions to Mosques, Surau and Islamic Burial Grounds presentation ceremony at Dewan Kompleks Islam Sarawak today (Feb 4).
In this regard, he stressed that members of the public wishing to pay zakat should do so through the proper channels.
“Fitrah zakat payments must be made via channels that are legitimate and recognised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC),” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, Muslims in Malaysia are expected to begin fasting for Ramadan on February 18 (Wednesday).
